Although my massages are typically a combination of all of these styles, here is a brief definition of each:
SWEDISH MASSAGE
Generally light to medium pressure massage with long, gliding strokes. Emphasis is on relaxation and relief of tension in superficial muscle layers.
Sports massage
Sports massage tends to be more invigorating, as it’s used to prepare the body for activity. Sports massage techniques are also great for post activity, to reduce fatigue, aid in recovery and minimize delayed onset muscles soreness from exercise. The massage techniques are faster with light-deep pressure being utilized.
DEEP TISSUE
Is precisely what it sounds like. Deep pressure and certain techniques are applied to access the deeper muscle layers to relieve tension and promote healing and relief of chronic pain. There can be a some mild to moderate soreness/tenderness the following day, but usually dissipates within 24 hours along with feeling the relief from pain ailments. Hydrating sufficiently afterwards helps minimize the probability of feeling sore from this session.
Trigger point therapy:
A trigger point is a tight area within a muscle that is causing pain in a different area of the body. Trigger point therapy is a series of static pressure and release cycles designed to alleviate the source of pain.
